Review of Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983) by Danny R — 19 Oct 2008
Marred in tragedy and somewhat forgotten for its merits, Twilight Zone does a good job of duplicating the tone of the TV show and provides high profile directors to have a go at some weirdness. With any kind of anthology there are stronger than most spots.
The Speilberg one with the old people turning into kids is the weakest one but there is a sadness to it that gets me every time. The John Landis one is hard to watch without thinking about Vic Morrow's death but it is actually well done and it would have been interesting to see how else that it could have came out had the accident not have happened.
My two favorites were the ones with John Lithgow freaking out on the plane and where the kid controls his little world and has the fake family. That kid one is very cartoony and zany but horrific at the same time.
Dig the Kevin McCarthy and his magic trick. The intro with Aykroyd and Albert Brooks is sweet too.
