Review of Twilight (2015) by Jesse H — 11 Aug 2018
Twilight is a frustrating film. However, before I get to all the reasons I do not like this film, I will discuss what I did like about it. The shots in this film a simply breathtaking. This film's location manager should be given an award.
The location they shot in is beautiful, big, and dramatic, and was chosen perfectly, in my opinion. Okay, let's move on. I would like to begin by saying that I don't mind Kristen Stewart's performance in Twilight.
She actually is a talented actress, and I feel that the problems with her performance is more based on writing and directing then acting. In fact, my main problem with this film revolves around one man, Edward Cullen, the vampire.
Other then the fact that Robert Pattinson is a horrible actor, the character is poorly written, and come off as a major a___hole, he is not accurate to vampire mythology.I was severely frustrated by the fact that this film ignores vampire mythology to a point that it becomes not only noticeable, but an insult to the intelligence of the audience.
However, I think that Twilight's biggest crime is that it is really boring. The long, drawn out scenes can put even the most attentive of audiences to sleep. Now, I have never read the book, although I am informed by my friends who have read the book that the movie is absolutely nothing like it.
I sincerely hope that is the case, because Twilight is the single biggest insult to my intelligence I have seen since Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. I actually think the main reason this film is so boring is because of how seriously it takes itself.
Twilight has an unoriginal, stupid premise, and yet it refuses to acknowledge its' own idiocy, deciding instead to play they premise straight. In my opinion, they should have been more tongue-in-cheek about it's premise, which would have probably made it a more enjoyable film.
Overall, Twilight is a bad film. But, to its' credit, I was able to finish it. There have been films that I have hated so much that I turn it off after 5 minutes, but somehow I was actually able to finish Twilight, although it was with a large dose of pain.
I will never understand why so many people love this film. Twilight will always be a stupid, boring film that takes its' absurd, unoriginal premise too seriously to me. 1.5/5 stars.
