Atmospheric, romantic and intriguing, the film version of the best-selling book does an excellent job of staying true to the essence of the novel while discarding the bits that irritated so much. The visual medium suits the source material, with page-long descriptions of Edward's gorgeousness distilled into lingering close-ups of Rob Pattinson's vamped-up features.

Bella also comes across as much more feisty and tomboyish than her literary incarnation, who tended to come across as weak and colourless. The only flaw is the casting of Nikki Reed, who is much too sluttish for the elegant and sophisticated Rosalie.

Can't wait for the nest one!
