Um, I guess there's something to appeal to fans of the books here, but outside of that there's little to work with. First is the laughable ideal that one hundred year old vampires would pose as high school kids. It would be much easier and safer to pose as local 20 somethings. Teenage romance is proof that women are only looking for a mysterious stranger to define their unique place in this world. Kristen Stewart is a terrible actress but no performance shines in this bleak film. Given the rampant use of vampire powers and random killings everyone else in this town should have solved the mystery of vampire just like Bella Swan did.

PTI but like I said in my 50 Shades of Grey review why give the characters ironic names? Bella (bell of the ball) and swan (what the ugly duckling becomes) showcases the metaphor of her transformation from misunderstood loner from a new town to the most polular girl in school hanging out with the mysterious popular kids. It's a fairy tale.

That's what this film is, a modern fairy tale. and if you're an adult like me you'll see through this lazy attempt to corner the tween girl audience.
