Review of Twice-Told Tales (1963) by Michael H — 21 Sep 2012
The 1963 adaptation of Nathaniel Hawthorne's stories into a horror anthology starring Vincent Price on the outset sounds good for a few Corman-eque laughs. However, "Twice-Told Tales" is an anthology with every segment containing its own strengths but throughout there's a lot of consistent treasures.
For example: the technicolor, cinematography, set and costume designs, and the score are all gorgeous. The tales have twists, thrills, and storytelling craft and it's one the best atmospheric horror anthologies to watch for Halloween or, really, anytime.
