Review of Twelve Monkeys (1995) by Elliott F — 11 Aug 2012
Despite a powerful performance from Bruce Willis (who is rather underappreciated as an actor because of his action star status) and a manic against-type turn from Brad Pitt, Terry Gilliam's 12 Monkeys feels undercooked.
It has a lot of ideas--several really, really good ones--but it doesn't follow them all through, and it suffers for it. That said, it's still an interesting film to watch, if a very cerebral one; the plot twists alone make the two hours and ten minutes fly by.
