Review of Twelve Monkeys (1995) by Anna Q — 17 Feb 2013
An iconic film and one of the best science fiction movies that lives up that lives up to its title, about nightmares, time travel, death, and the future of mankind. James Cole (Bruce Willis) is a prisoner living in a future where most of the human race has been wiped out by a contagion, and a team of scientists desperately use prisoners like Cole to find the source of the disease.
Cole, who has been having ominous nightmares since his childhood, is chosen by the scientists to go back in time before the contagion to find out where it came from. While the performances are a little over the top and the story's confusing at times, Twelve Monkeys is a complex, intriguing, and surprisingly bleak film, especially by a member of Monty Python.
