Review of Twelve Monkeys (1995) by Kia M — 25 Mar 2013
An intense, gripping film about time travel from visionary director Terry Gilliam, starring Bruce Willis as a convict that must travel back in time to prevent a deadly virus from spreading that wiped out nearly the entire human race.
He is sent back to both 1990 and 1996, the latter being the year the virus was released, supposedly by the terrorist group the Twelve Monkeys, and James Cole (Willis) seeks them out. Along the way, Cole is sent to a mental institution where he meets Jeffrey Goines (Brad Pitt), a madman with a plan, and a psychiatrist, Dr.
Railly, whom Cole kidnaps to help him on his journey. The plot is twisted and complex, especially the way it loops back on itself, but still manages to satisfy and speculate on the human condition.
