Review of Tuya's Marriage (2006) by Mattias E — 02 Sep 2008
Female independence in rural China ain't easy, as shown in this feminist fieldstudy of a movie from director Wang Quan An. Tuya wears herself out supporting her family while all the male characters around her act like spoiled kids, tragicomical and listless.
Subtly comical and heartbreakingly sad, this movie is about to become a classic. Yu Nans performance already is.
