Review of Tusk (2014) by Robert J — 17 Sep 2014
I think I know how this movie got the green light to be made, I really do.
Kevin Smith is one of the best storytellers in the business. If you have not seen "An Evening with Kevin Smith", you need to watch both installments. Without only a microphone, Kevin is able to make you laugh, cry and think; all while he is answering unscripted questions from an audience. He is a truly amazing storyteller.
So how did this movie get made? I would imagine that Kevin can make a pitch to studio executives better than almost anyone in Hollywood these days. He can get you excited about a story and really immerse yourself in the fiction. The studio executive is amazed at Kevin's storytelling abilities and gives the project the go-ahead.
The only problem is that this story, and many other Kevin Smith stories; seem to lose something in the translation to the screen. The story is there, but the execution is lacking.
This film had some of the earmarks of a Kevin Smith story, but I think it is a tale best left for Kevin to tell next to a campfire.
