Review of Tusk (2014) by Hugo G — 17 Sep 2014
This movie was one that I really anticipated because it had a very original and unusual plot. And also it had many talented people behind it. Therefore, I already knew this wouldn't be your average type of movie but more of a challenge and type of ironic horror/comedy and so to understand it and know go along with its night be pretty tough to certain people. Furthermore, it is obviously not meant to be taken as a straight movie but just as what it is, a satire and a tale about humans and the loss of humanity. Thus, it was a pretty disturbing and humorous movie that came out pretty entertaining and really inventive. Kevin Smith made a very original and kind of a new monster type of movie, with a great script and equally great acting from all it's cast but the ones that stole the movie were Michael Parks, Justin Long and Johnny Depp in a very unusual and comedic character. Overall, the feel of the movie was very fun and even touching in its last instances, which surprised me very deeply as to how thoughtful it was. But nonetheless, the movie might pass as plain silly and stupid in many ways, but it all depends on how seriously you take it and on how you get it.
