Review of Tusk (2014) by Dylan W — 28 Jul 2015
Ridiculous premise played way too straight. Ultimately incredibly boring which is surprising considering the silly concept.
It pads itself out with either frustratingly dull conversation, long-winded monologues, and painfully unfunny sequences. It's not trying very hard at all, really.
Consisting of a cast of paper-thin and unlikeable characters, there really wasn't anyone to root for. The only particularly interesting one in the cast is Depp's, which is a shallow caricature who hogs way too much screen time and whose segments were incredibly cringe-inducing. All in all when it came time for me to actually feel for the characters, I really couldn't have cared less.
Mostly felt like a, "We have money to burn, so why not, people will eat it up anyways" kind of film. Then again, that's pretty much par for the course for Smith at this point. Definitely give it a miss.
