Review of Tusk (2014) by Chris M — 22 May 2016
Ovies with disturbing content sometimes get panned because the critics -- like the rest of us -- don't like feeling disturbed. Roger Ebert was the best in my book -- R.I.P. -- but even he found THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE so disturbing that he refused to rate it.
This isn't a good movie -- it is a great movie, and one that will leave you thinking long after the fact. Kurt Vonnegut said something like the following: We are who we pretend to be, so be careful who you pretend to be.
This movie is a wonderful cautionary tale to remind us of the wisdom of that statement. It is hilarious, horrific, and insightful. I am glad I gave it a chance in spite of the harsh criticisms it has gotten -- it is easily the best movie I have seen in a very long time.
