There were moments in Tusk where I genuinely was in disbelief of what I was seeing. However, while this film is far from great, I cannot deny that I found this to be a very fresh film. By that I mean that I have not seen anything quite like this before, and I doubt I'll see anything like it again.

Kevin Smith does a respectable job writing the movie, and there is some quality directing here as well. My biggest issues with the film lie in Justin Longs horribly written character that I felt no emotional attachment to, some of the dialogue, and the strange amount of overacting featured in this film.

Justin Long just did not do it for me for at least the first 45 minutes. Later, he wasn't bad, but his character was so obnoxious and unfunny it was ruining the first act for me. Johnny Depp also has another very cartoonish role which I found to be better than Longs character, namely because he was actually mildly funny.

Everything after the first act, the...umm... practical effects shall we say, and the ending I throughly enjoyed. Micheal Parks as the old man I thought was one of the best parts of the film as well, very creepy and unhinged, but not overdone too much than the movie required him to be.

Tusk is definitely not for everyone, and I feel as though many people who see it will hate it, but that's just my opinion.
