Tusk begins with a strong comedic start that mixes Kevin Smith's usual raunchy humor and strange satirical kind of black comedy, however this quickly leaves the film as soon as Justin Long enters the house of our villain.
Tusk is a horror-comedy that uses comedy in the wrong places. It splits the two genres instead of mixing them like a good horror-comedy should. Scenes often feel like they've gone on too long and it shows that Kevin Smith is not a great editor.
Johnny Depp is... well... uh... not funny. There are like fifty flashbacks and they're distracting and half of them did not need to be flashbacks. Tusk has some genuinely funny dialogue and the imagery is disturbing but overall you feel just let down by such a promising idea for a horror-comedy and how so many opportunities are wasted.
