Review of Tusk (2014) by Cole M — 17 Dec 2014
"Tusk" is one of the weirdest, grossest, and stupidest movies I've seen in a very long time. It looks and feels like a bad, unused "Saturday Night Live" or "Mad TV" sketch mixed in with "Human Centipede." Plus, Johnny Depp shows up in the second act as a dreadfully unfunny, bumbling Inspector Clouseau-inspired character that completely derails the movie. The walrus suit made from chunks of human flesh Justin Long is frightening to look at it and I don't mean that in a good way. It's ugly and badly put together. If it were ever on "Face Off", it would be voted down immediately.
And I don't mean to be so hard on Smith. I like Kevin Smith and support his ballsiness to be experimental and try new things, but I think his heart was in the wrong place when making this. As The Seattle Times critic, Erik Lundegaard, wrote in his review giving the film zero out of four stars, "Tusk, which is based on one of Smith's own podcasts, is the most disgusting and pointless movie I've seen. Emphasis on pointless. I spent half the movie sick to my stomach.".
