Review of Turtles Can Fly (2004) by Sylvia L — 28 Jan 2008
Indigestible horror. This movie is so utterly depressing, brutally honest about the raw reality of these children and shocking in its numbness. You'd be lucky if you started crying, because I just felt dysfunctional.
However, it's not a movie you want to pass over. Shot in muted desert colors with sparse dialogue and extraordinary performances by the child actors, this film has a poetry of its own that has the power to make you ask the big questions.
