Review of Turtles Can Fly (2004) by Dipak B — 23 Sep 2010
A film about the lives of orphans in a refugee camp. You see the consequences of war manifested on these children - young boys without arms or hobbling around on crutches, making a living by diffusing landmines, the girl with a blind child who was the result of her being raped by soldiers.
Yet the positive spirit of the young leader, 13-year old Soran, shines through, giving a sense of hope amidst the depressing & harsh environment. It is a thought-provoking but heartbreaking film to watch.
