Review of Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) by Bill B — 09 Mar 2015
A decent attempt to catalogue the meteoric rise of the Turtles, from their early days as an indie comic to their practical monopolisation of the Saturday morning cartoon market. While admirable enough in its extensive use of contributors from across the franchise's history and impressively thorough home-video footage - the doc nonetheless left me with some questions.
How come Eastman and Laird's relatively low-budget venture succeeded where so many others have failed? What incarnations of the TMNT do they consider to be failures? There was also a couple of notable examples of mediocre lighting and sound and some pacing issues in the editing.
Overall though, definitely a must-watch for Turtle fans - not so sure I'd recommend it to others.
