Turning Red is not a "new" story by any means. It's a coming-of-age film, of which there have been plenty over the years. However, where "Turning Red" excels is in its on-the-nose depiction of trauma, growth, acceptance, and triumph.
An emotional roller coaster from beginning to end, this film is one that not only has poignant writing depicting the hardships of puberty and life itself but also moments that will leave you crying in both laughter and empathy.
