Review of Turistas (2006) by Helen M — 05 May 2008
After losing lots of faith and hope in our new age horror flicks I came across a movie called "Turistas" and the premise seemed interesting. A bunch of backpackers head to Brazil, have a bus crash, decide to party at the beach bar until they wake up in the morning completely robbed- then they are hunted down in some pretty awesome ways.
Turistas is different because it is not a slasher flick yet it is partially psychological horror which I love. This film has amazing cinematography, fantastic underwater chase and death scenes . The acting is good for this genre and they surely know the ingrediants to make a good horror movie even better- nudity.
The death scenes although not plentiful are quite good, and look out for the "kidney" scene. Overall Turistas was a breath of fresh bloody air and I enjoyed it. If I must complain about anything it is the lack of character development. Other than that highly recommended, watch it at night, alone or with friends- get the popcorn out!
