Review of Turistas (2006) by Patrick D — 03 Oct 2009
Not really a horror movie. It's more of a thriller. This movie is really about Americans and their paranoia of foreign countries. The hero, who we follow through the film, is a close minded American alpha male.
And of course his distrust of the country proves to be right. So what is this movie saying? There are sections of the movie that are extremely graphic and disturbing but they are short. The villain is slightly interesting since he seems to be motivated by anger towards first world greed and colonialism.
However, these legitimate concerns are discredited by the fact that he is the villain that must be destroyed. There is some really great underwater footage though. But that doesn't make up for some massive plot holes and a skewed right wing perspective.
