Review of Turistas (2006) by Jens S — 16 Oct 2010
This horror thriller about a group of tourists that barely escape from a bus accident and end up stuck in the Brazilian jungle only to get hunted by organ dealers has not a lot of new ideas to offer. The beginning is still decent and the characters feel real enough to care following them around.
Sadly, the movie makes the horrible mistake by introducing the villains and their evil plot way too early and without much tension. The bad guys' lines are also mostly horribly stupid. The second half offers a bit of gore and a lot of chasing through (beautifully shot) underwater caves, which is quite confusing.
At least the breathing of small air pockets is a pretty neat idea. Before things get too exciting it's all over already and it's not that hard to guess who the last survivors are. A rather mediocre experience.
