Review of Turbo Kid (2015) by Lyndon N — 16 Sep 2015
An incredibly self aware action comedy set in the far future apocalypse of 1997. If you hate synth music, this may not be the film for you. A Canadian/New Zealand production, the film tells a simple, but entertaining tale of a young wasteland scavenger and his new best friend as they flee from a megalomaniacal warlord (played by the scenery chewing Michael Ironside, giving a top shelf, eye winking performance that reminds us of what a villain can be).
Imagine MAD MAX on bmx bikes with lasers and comical amounts of splatstick violence. You actually learn to LIKE the main characters and find yourself laughing at the predictable, but entertaining story twists.
STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. Great for a fun rental. You'll believe in the 80s again.
