Review of Turbo (2013) by Jc E — 05 Feb 2014
Of all the animated movies that came out in 2013, 'Turbo' may have been ripped on the most. I don't really know why. Sure, it wasn't ground-breaking, but it was harmless fun. Don't get me wrong, it was totally annoying to see the cliché-ification of Hispanic communities, but it could have been much worse.
There was no agenda, a la 'Happy Feet' or 'The Lorax'. The voice cast - including Ryan Reynolds (R.I.P.D), Paul Giamatti (Barney's Version), Samuel L. Jackson (Django Unchained), Ken Jeong (The Hangover: Part III), and Michelle Rodriguez (Fast and Furious 6) - was suitable, and there wasn't any real adult humor throughout the flick - some stuff that kids may not get, but nothing borderline inappropriate like 'Shrek'.
It didn't do good business in a crowded summer, so it gets ripped on. Too bad, because it's not too shabby.
