Review of Tully (2018) by Steviegjd — 24 May 2018
Charlise Theron is proving to be one of the best actresses of her generation. The physical transformation she goes through to play this part is astonishing. She is simply perfect in the film. All of the acting is very good though.
The reason I think this movie is a 70-75 is the gimmicky explanation at the end. There could have been other ways for it to be revealed than the circumstances under which it was revealed in the film.
A doctor's reply to a statement the husband makes near the moment of the reveal is sublime. The fact that this movie is not an in depth look at postpartum depression is fine; I don't fault the film for that.
I am fine with the gimmick. I just didn't like the revelation of the gimmick. Still this is still a very interesting movie with a tremendous performance by a gifted actress at the peak of her prowess.
