A drama with a tinge of psycho-drama but definitely NOT a comedy, the funniest part was the exchange: Tully, "You can't treat the parts without treating the whole." Marlo, "No one's treated my hole in a really long time.".

Burnt out, over worked Marlo manages three kids (one new-born and another is autistic) flapping her feet on the thankless 24/7 treadmill of her life growing old and showing her frustration. She is married to a neglectful husband who when he is not away on business trips is lying in bed gaming. I'm thinking this imprisoned woman will mercilessly conclude the movie with a post-partum fueled bedroom murder scene, but no.

At her rich brother's urging and financial backing, a young night nanny, Tully, is hired who gently takes charge of Marlo. Early on Marlo-the-wreck, responds to Tully's rescuing therapy becoming energized transforming into a confident woman. But things just don't add up about Tully as the movie progresses. At some point I began reflecting on the movie Pali Road - questioning is this Tully a real person or imaginary. Marlo and Tully go out on an all-night bender. While on the way home she crashes the car off an embankment and into the river in fully DUI fashion. It is during her hospital stay that you figure out what really happened and who this Tully was.

Great work from all the cast, especially Charlize Theron, Ron Livingstone and Mackenzie Davis, and kudos to director Jason Reitman and writer Diablo Cody.

How was this movie marketed as a comedy? I'm reporting Click bait!
