Featuring sensitive lead performances from Mackenzie Davis and Charlize Theron, Tully is a film which is enjoyable on a very human, down to earth level. It's not fancy, isn't full of visual trickery, and doesn't try to be too much more than an earnest family drama.

It's an often-frustrating experience, in that characters frequently whisper when its uncalled for, meaning a lot of the more intimate dialogue can be difficult to hear at times. But the story of a frustrated mother, struggling with her children while expecting another one any day is tackled with brutal honesty and heart.

It's a journey into something of a dissatisfied life, and trying to work within the confines of that life. It doesn't teach a whole lot of lessons, and the ones it does teach are pretty self-evident.

But the characters do noticeably mature, and while they do silly things at times, its easy to see why they choose to do them. It ends with a twist that I honestly didn't see coming, and it makes perfect sense and fits in with the story, unlike a lot of cheap 'gotcha' swerves.

Tully's charm and success rests largely on the strength of its cast, and with such a great ensemble, it's sure to win you over.
