Review of Tulip Fever (2017) by Elliot B — 02 Sep 2017
I almost didn't see this film because of the terrible rating and rotten reviews, but so glad I did. While it's true there's no Rembrandt here , there are key weaknesses to it, and it doesn't quite take itself as serious as its subject matter, we both found it interesting, never boring, as it shed light in period costume and settings on a period we've not crossed paths with since the Three Musketeers; and no one ever faulted that literary farce for being too glib.
The superb cast, which convinced me to see this flick in spite of the low ratings, did a good job keeping the plot(s) all moving forward to a neatly plotted ending that , implausible as it were, bothered me not, kind sir.
