Review of Tuff Turf (1985) by Luc L — 05 Oct 2010
A very early milestone in the careers of both James Spader & Robert Downey, Jr., this is a mid-80's re-telling of "Romeo & Juliet", with very star-crossed lovers enduring the slings & arrows of all around them.
Spader & Downey are great, & you could tell then that they'd have long, fruitful careers ahead of them. Kim Richards, all (stunningly) grown-up from her days on "Nanny & the Professor", the "Witch Mountain" series, & "Hello Larry", also gives a moving & real performance.
However, the standout in the cast is great character actor Matt Clark (Most often seen as seedy desert-rats in 70's Westerns-), as Spader's warm-hearted & understanding father--he very rarely ever got parts like this, & truly shines here.
With great dance sequences & a fantastisc soundtrack (Which I wore out--pre CD days--).
