Review of Tucker: The Man and His Dream (1988) by Christopher S — 03 Dec 2008
Francis Ford Coppola's blandly nostalgic biopic has the emotional depth of the Norman Rockwell paintings it seems to be trying to emulate - it fails as both a character study (we learn nothing about Tucker the man, and thus don't care about his dream) and a historical drama.
A talented cast does their best with their underwritten characters in an obvious script, and the lavish production design and cinematography are just too squeaky-clean to be believable. Annoyingly cloying in its attempt to be good, old-fashioned entertainment.
Unless your really interested in automotive history, you can skip this one.
