Review of Tsotsi (2005) by Meeza (Lobsterman) — 14 May 2008
"Tsotsi" was the golden Academy winner of Best Foreign Film of the 2005 film year. That made me sought out "Tsotsi", and I am glad I did. This South African narrative stars Presley Chweneyagae as Tsotsi, an inconsiderate hoodlum who makes a living on others misfortunes by his unspeakable crimes.
Tsotsi robs a wealthy South African mother and runs off in her car, only to later notice that her toddler is in the auto. Tsotsi in his own way cares for the baby and life lessons on compassion, empathy, selflessness, love, and caretaking follow.
Director Gavin Hood was an admirable "Auteur Boy in The South African Hood" with the emotional punch he directorially contributes to "Tsotsi". Make sure you sought out a handkerchief for "Tsotsi" because it will make you cry like a baby on a film that shows a thief care for a baby.
Presley Chweneyagae was astounding as "Tsotsi. If he continues acting like that, this Presley will be the future actor king of South African cinema. Thank you very much! The supporting acting of Tsotsi was also phenomenal which includes South African players: Terry Pheto, Kenneth Nkosi, Monthusi Magano, and Zenso Ngkobe.
Nurture your movie-going experience, and baby-sit "Tsotsi" today. **** Good.
