Review of Tsotsi (2005) by Elisa L — 15 May 2008
Tsotsi presents a startling environment where poverty, crime and disease render many people a victim of circumstance. First shown as a monster, Tsotsi emerges as a boy in a man's body; Chweneyagae's spectacular debut performance makes his evolution as believable as it is unforgettable.
Its a film of extraordinary viciousness and vulnerability about a criminal who has to meet an infant to remember he is still a child himself. Its exploration of rediscovered humanity digs deep.
