I feel guilty giving it two stars. My superego tells me it derserves less, but the id is the part of me that convinced me to watch this movie. Two rows behind me 4 giggling chatty college girls sat with their feet propped up on the seats in front of them. It was for them that this movie was made, and maybe a much younger me. Throughout much of the movie, I felt bored when the music indicated that I should be feeling suspense. The characters that weren't quickly killed off in the beginning were better developed, but I can't say that I could relate with any of them or played the game the same way they did. The movie had potential, but it took on the aspect of an American Pie film without the same level of cleverness or humor. They shoot for drama, but it's trivial and shallow. Spoiler alert don't read any further...

At the beginning of the film the innocent Olivia announces that she is willing to sacrifice all of her friends if it would save all of the people of Mexico. At the end she has one friend left, and decides that it is better to loose a demon in the world that will result in millions of deaths rather than the two of them stopping it by dying and ending the game. I'm glad I didn't pay to see the movie, but I'd still like a refund on my time. The giggling girls started chattering again as the credits rolled talking about how good it was. I found them much more horrifying than the movie. #sacrificetheworld4besties.
