Review of Truth (2015) by Tahir H — 03 Feb 2016
Apparently many people in here liked this movie, so I thought I'd weigh in with an opposite point of view. My adult daughter and I could not get through it. Such incredible acting firepower but no acting.
Everyone spoke with the same energy all the time. The scenes had no conflict within them; it was all manufactured from tone of voice. And the mansplaining! To have incredible talent such as Elizabeth Moss reduced to asking questions and then nodding her head as she's being schooled by male after male when the script is only using her as a way to provide exposition was truly irritating.
At one point Topher Grace actually turned from Dennis Quaid to pointedly explain things to Elizabeth Moss. She spent the entire scene simply asking questions like, "Why?" and "What does that mean?" So we only sat through an hour of the thing.
Can't speak for the second half. We had to put in 13 Days (great movie! subtle acting! real stakes!) as a palate cleanser before going to bed.
