Review of Truth (2015) by Brett S — 19 Feb 2016
As you read reviews that pan this movie, it's important to ask yourself: "did this person pan this movie because of poor storytelling or acting, or because they feel it's more about vilifying W.
?" Hopefully the former, because it's certainly not about the latter. W., Clinton, Reagan, Obama, pick your politician, it could have been about any of them. What this movie is about, is how sometimes quality journalism suffers as a result of corporate profits, how haste makes waste, and how, in the end, it's still important to ask questions, even if nobody wants to hear them or the answers.
Blanchett is spectacular and effective. Stacy Leach does a fine job as Burkett. Dennis Quaid, as always, wins me over. The worst part of this movie is casting Robert Redford as Dan Rather...I mean, really??? Redford's a fine actor and all, and if I didn't have to SEE him, it would have been okay.
But you have to make the guy look at least a LITTLE like Rather! Made it difficult to take him seriously in the role, to be honest. Otherwise, fine film, and deserves to be watched...just remember what it's REALLY about, and not what anti-journalists want you to THINK it's about.
