Review of Trumbo (2015) by Kj P — 07 Jan 2016
Dalton Trumbo, known as one of the great writers in cinema, was a part of he communists and suffered from it greatly. Going to prison and then using an alias to stay afloat in the business, this film explores the complex life of the beloved/notorious screenwriter.
Bryan Cranston is incredibly believable in the title role and I really do not think they could have made a better casting choice for this picture. His co-stars give it their all and the story is interesting enough to hold your attention, but the film simply does not have enough substance to get great.
While the film really is just a montage of the most important portions of his life, you never get a sense of his character arc or really what became of him, until the end credits explain it. I was pretty disappointed with this film, mainly due to the fact that they chose a dull story to tell about a very interesting person.
I was pretty bored watching this movie, I am not going to lie, but I did enjoy watching Bryan Cranston play this character. Overall, it is not a film I will remember for very long, but upon being reminded of it, I will immediately think of the great performance.
"Trumbo" is fine, but nothing worth recommending.
