It's almost as if director Jay Roach is urging you to feel bad for the American Communist party. Trumbo would have been a much greater film had the Marxist views not been shoved down the throats of the audience the whole two hours.
Still, Bryan Cranston does excellent work here as blacklisted journalist of the 1940s Dalton Trumbo, as does Helen Mirren. Trumbo is a prime example of the cast making up for the rest of a movie's flaws.
