Bryan Cranston is a wonderful actor and his performance in Trumbo was really the only redeeming highlight in this otherwise flat, 2 dimensional film about the renowned and yet chastised 60's Hollywood screenwriter Dalton Trumbo.

Without getting into specifics, the film tries way too hard to be great, but disintegrates in it's own earnest intention. Louis C.K. is miscast as a struggling fellow screenwriter (Arlen Hird); Diane Lane goes through the motions as (torn/devoted) wife Cleo Trumbo and though the portrayals of John Wayne, Edward G.

Robinson and Kirk Douglas are in the ball park, they symbolize this film's misfire in that they don't quite cut it. This is a movie that just should not have been made. 2/5.
