Review of Truly Madly Deeply (1991) by Laura V — 21 May 2008
Suprise!!!! This is actually my ALL TIME FAVORITE MOVIE!!!! It's such a beautifully written, funny, sad story. And Magnificently Acted too!! I don't think anyone else on this earth could have played Jamie and Nina other than Juliet Stevenson and Alan Rickman.
Their Chemistry is Brilliant!!!! The scene where Jamie recites an excerpt of "The Dead Woman" by Pablo Neruda to Nina is just Beautiful. It always brings me to tears. And the soundtrack to this film just moves me!!! Such wonderful pieces of J.
S. Bach! The scene at the end where Nina leaves the flat to be with Mark and the ghosts move through the flat to rally around Jamie as he looks on is set so perfectly to Bach's Sarabande, Keyboard Concerto No.
7, Andante that it takes my breath away! I can never get enough of this film! It gives such an interesting perspective on the grieving process, and how we, as people, hold on to love that it's very refreshing and deeply moving at the same time.
It is some of Anthony Minghella's finest work. He will be missed!
