Review of Truly Madly Deeply (1991) by Shoo Wen L — 29 Aug 2008
The effectiveness of a good script can be measured in part by how engaging the characters seem to the viewer. You don't necessary have to LIKE the characters. You don't even have to (entirely) believe the characters.
But you do need to feel engaged and connected to them on some level. This is one of those very rare films where, once the credits roll, you actually start to miss the characters that populate it. This is also one of those rare films that is 100% guaranteed to leave me crumpled in a weepy, sobbing heap.
Not a "chick flick" but an intelligent analysis of love and loss and learning to move on. *sniff*.
