Review of True Romance (1993) by Jesse O — 13 Apr 2012
As far as Tarantino-related projects, this has to be among the best when it comes to pacing and telling a clearer and more concise story. Of course, I'm sure most of this is due to the fact that someone other than Tarantino directed the movie.
It would've probably been 30 minutes longer and been told in a non-linear manner. And not every movie needs to be like this. I don't mind the 10 minute scenes of people talking about nothing relating to the plot because at least the writing is good, but it doesn't need to be in every one of your movies.
And that's what is so fresh about this movie, at least as far as what Tarantino has done. But yea the movie is great, it has great performances pretty much throughout the entire cast, great action, great writing.
..it is lacking Tarantino's cool choice for a soundtrack, but that's not really a weakness at all. It also tells a really good love story between these two characters, as fucked up at it is. It's definitely better than Sid and Nancy because the actress who played Nancy in that movie was fucking terrible, it relied only on Oldman's performance.
This movie is better in that regards. Overall it's just a highly enjoyable movie.
