Review of True Romance (1993) by Amjad A — 21 Jul 2013
If this is a B grade movie, then I guess B grade movies don't get any better than this.. An absolute masterpiece which features knockout performances from an incredible cast featuring, Slater, Pitt, Walken, Hopper, just too name a few.
Like in any movie he is featured in, Christopher Walken absolutely owns. Patrica Arquette also delivers an amazing performance, proving that she, at the time, was one of the most talented actresses in the world.
The films central subtext is romance, or somewhat a love story about two lost souls coming together. If you look at it from different angle though, I think Tarantino's main objective in writing this film was to outline all the themes and conventions that he was well known for with his debut of Reservior Dogs.
Even though Tarantino didn't direct the movie, you feel like you are watching a Tarantino film because his thumb print is so engraved in this picture. I believe Tony Scott did his amazing screenplay justice and did an amazing job in directing the film, but you can't help believe if it wasn't for the talent of Tarantino writing the script and finishing the screenplay, the film wouldn't of been half as successful as it was.
And this attributes to the witty and sharp dialogue Tarantino is noted for. The film has everything for everyone who enjoys exploitation flicks. Romance, drugs, violence, comedy, wit, intelligence, sharp and humoros dialouge, superb performances, a great cast, blaxplotation, etc.
True Romance really is an entertaining rollercoaster ride which engages in twsts and turns and will have the audience begging for more all way through. I reccomend this film highly for anyone who appreciates the sheer art of B grade, low budget cinema.
