Review of True Romance (1993) by Johnny G — 19 Dec 2013
Just giving my condolences to the poor slobs who can't see the unmitigated brilliance of True Romance. One of the few perfect movies ever made. I'm not a big fan of Tarentino but his screen writing in this film is unsurpassed and his finest work. Of course the spot on interpretation by the cast, all at the top of their game, illuminates the magical words on the page. How can a movie get even better the 20th time you watch it? This one does. My eyes well up every time the late great Dennis Hopper asks Christopher Walken for that Chesterfield. There are a half dozen performances that could by themselves in a vacuum make this a great film. Put them all in one film and movie magic is made. Oh, and thats Brad Pitt getting blown out on the sofa.
The story line is preposterous but somehow remains tight and believable. Credit Tony Scott's directing. Anyway, each year its following grows and I only hope it continues to gain appreciation for being a great film.
