Review of True Lies (1994) by Daniel V — 08 Sep 2014
When James Cameron cast Arnold Schwarzenegger as the the killer robot in The Terminator, a movie partnership was formed that was very fruitful for both men. While they had many hits separate from each other, The two Terminators and this Comedic Spy gem grossed a combined $975 million.
One can hope that they work together at least one more time, maybe somewhere in the Avatar sequels? Because if they do, they will be guaranteed to pass the 1 billion dollar threshold. With Avatar and Titanic both reaching that plateau and the sequels, at least the first one, will more than likely hit that mark, I'm sure Jimmy wouldn't mind adding that distinction to his resume.
True Lies is a just fun, action packed well performed Spy Comedy in the vein of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. The action is Bondian in nature and the comedy comes at quick clip. Arnold is at his cheeky best and kicks every ass he sees.
Jamie Lee Curtis pulls off bored clumsy housewife just as well as she pulls of the sexy dance she does UNKNOWINGLY for her hubby spy. Her body is probably one of the best Hollywood has ever seen and from her recent appearance in New Girl, Jamie is still looking pretty good 20 years later.
Tom Arnold has always been underrated for his comic sensibilities because he was known too long as just Rosanne's husband and then just annoying fat drunk. But him and Arnold make for an incredible funny team and I really wish they did a sequel to this way back when.
Unfortunately it may have been too long a lay off for this band to get back together but if they dd, I throw down 15 bucks to see it. This also worth seeing for BIll Paxton's hilarious small role as a used car salesman who pretends to be a spy to seduce housewives looking for some excitement, like Jamie Lee.
James Cameron loves seeing Arnold beat up his old friend, Bill. See also the blue spiky hair punk in The Terminator's first Arnold scene.
