Review of True Lies (1994) by Anthony K — 07 Sep 2017
A strange, strange film that makes a lot more sense when you realize it's based on French source material, the biggest flaw this movie suffers is its attitude towards women, which truly date the film permanently. Tom Arnold's character in particular is egregious; he's a man who both hates every woman he's ever been involved with and also sexualizes 14 year old girls. Not to mention the mental torture he and Arnold put Jamie Lee Curtis through because 'housewives want adventure'.
The action is excellent, Arnold is charismatic as ever, and Jamie Lee Curtis is still a boss but...I just am not sure exactly how James Cameron saw this film in his head.
