Review of True Lies (1994) by Jay S — 11 Jun 2010

Take a driving story, add a bunch of explosives and a lot of badass action (courtesy of Arnold Swartzawhatever) and top with loads of comic relief and you get True Lies, a truly spectacular movie.

Arnold Swartzawhatever plays Harry Tasker, an expert spy who doesn't tell his wife (Hellen Tasker, played by Jamie Lee Curtis) about his real proffesion. Through a bizarre series of events they both get entangled in a terrorist plot to Nuke the Good Ol' USA.

This movie hits you two ways. The first is with consistant humor. Arnold, beneath his muscular exterior, has a great comedic sense and rolls out bite sized funny bits like a pro. None of the other actors really shine with comedic brilliance, but they still do ok.

The second way it hits you is through balls-out action. Harry Tasker is an unstoppable badass, and I absolutely love it when characters have that description. Bullets fly and things blow up in massve infernos. When it was released it was the most expensive movie ever made, and the grandiose of the action scenes make that easy to believe.

Any respect I lost for James Cameron for Avatar is more than offset by this flick. So....watch it. NOW!!!
