Review of True Legend (2010) by Sherry C — 15 Feb 2010
It wasn't that bad as critics said, but it was't very good either. I m just surprised the movie like this would show during CNY period. It's not a happy cheerful movie as u expected to see during CNY.
Anyway , back to the movie, as a director of this movie, no doubt that Yuen Woo Ping did an excellent job about those kung fu sences which he usually did. If you wonder why some scenes really look like Matrix, that's becoz Yuen is the one who choreographed the brilliant action sequences in the Matrix series.
However, those brilliant kung fu scenes just can't help the poor story telling.
The 1st part (Andy On's part) of the story is quite okay. I like that part and the acting about Vincent Zhou, Andy On, Xun Zhou and Michelle Yeoh.
But the 2nd part of the story, which is about fighting with Russia is totally unnecessary and it spoiled the whole movie and the story. I think the movie would be much better without that part.
It's interesting to see the partial 3D visual effect, which last about 20 mins (one of the selling point of this movie), that shown in the HK movie for the 1st time. As the 1st trial of this effect, the result wasn't that bad. Of coz, u can't compare it with Avatar, but it's still acceptable for me.
