Review of True Legend (2010) by Ginny — 08 Sep 2010
True Legend is gorgeously action packed with tons of beautiful wushu. The story itself is pretty basic. There are two guys who have been raised as brothers, but one of themâ??s adopted since his father was killed for using some nasty evil martial arts.
The adopted guy also feels extra crappy not only because his father was killed but also because his brother is favored by the prince and everyone. The favored brother is a general but decides to retire and make a wushu school and start a family with his wife.
The adopted brother goes pretty crazy and gets some nasty pasty skin and and weird voice when he masters the nasty evil martial arts like his father before him. It goes through the time in the military, the retirement to a small town, training in the forest, and eventually the drunken master arises to save Chinese fighters from evil brutish American English-speaking Superman-drugged up white guys that fight in a nasty arena/prostitution den.
The best parts are the scenes with the god of Wushu and the Old Sage, who are awesome, and the drunken master parts. The over-acting is really off-putting (especially the kid), the story drags sometimes, and the CG effects are alright.
But the main reason for the movie is the cool action scenes, of which there are many.
