Review of True Grit (2010) by Anna B — 20 Jan 2016
Very interesting to see how the Coen Brothers cook Western genre. I'd call it a "sexless threesome buddy movie." The performance by Hailee Steinfeld, who played the heroin of the film, is amazing and deserves Oscar nomination.
She well embodies an ideal girl of Coens - independent, tough, tender, and fragile. I think one of the hardest films for male directors to make is the one in which a girl is the main character, since she's the farthest existence from them.
Coen Brothers did it with the great support from two superb actors - Bridges and Damon. And of course, it is really great as a western film, too (especially how the Brothers create tension in gunfight scene with really long shots).
